PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stave and a method for measuring a thickness of the stave, by which even the thickness of a stave main body even made of a copper or a copper alloy can be measured by an ultrasonic thickness gauge as the state that the main body is installed in a furnace. SOLUTION: The stave for cooling the furnace body has the copper or the copper alloy-made stave main body being the cast product, and a copper or a copper alloy-made rolled material is embedded into the stave main body. Further, the stave for cooling the furnace body has the copper or the copper alloy-made stave cooler being the cast product, and through holes are provided in the thickness direction of the stave main body and the copper or the copper alloy-made rolled material is embedded into the through holes, is used. In the method for measuring the thickness of the stave, the stave thickness of the portion where the rolled material is embedded is measured by the using the ultrasonic thickness gauge.
