<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head rest device for a vehicle for a balanced support of a neck part and shoulders of an occupant, while quickly and surely restricting the head of the sitting occupant at a more forward position in case of rear end collision of the vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A fluid bag 13 for the head is disposed to a head rest body 10a, and a fluid bag 14 for the shoulder part is disposed to a part of a seat back 101 corresponding to shoulder parts Cs of the occupant. At the time of rear end collision, a fluid supply means 15 supplies pressure fluid to the head fluid bag 13 and shoulder part fluid bag 14, so that the head Ch and shoulder parts Cs of the occupant C moving backward of a vehicle body by an inertial force at the time of impact can be supported by the expanded head fluid bag 13 and shoulder part fluid bag 14.
