A method (S1–S8) is used for image processing, in which (a) non-normalised cross-correlation is used to produce a cross-correlation matrix (CC1; CC2) for a recorded image that contains at least one captured object (P; G) and a reference image that contains a reference object (S6); (b) for a respective captured object, a comparison of multiple regions of the correlation matrix (CC1; CC2) is performed (S7); and (c) on the basis of a result (cf1; cf2) of the comparison, a decision about whether the captured object and the reference object match is made (S8). A presence detector (2) has at least one image sensor (4), particularly a CMOS sensor, and is designed to perform the method (S1–S8). A lighting system (1) has at least one presence detector (2) that is coupled to at least one light source (3) of the lighting system (1). By way of example, the invention can be used to monitor and control room lighting and exterior lighting. |
