PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image processing apparatus and image processing method for an ultrasonic endoscope that are capable of making an ultrasonic probe be surely imaged in an observation image even when a relative position of the ultrasonic probe to an imaging surface varies because of a production error during mass production.SOLUTION: An ultrasonic probe detection unit 224 detects an imaged position of an ultrasonic probe 170 in a picked-up image input to a picked-up image input unit 222. An electronic mask pattern generation unit 225 generates, according to the imaged position of the ultrasonic probe 170 detected by the ultrasonic probe detection unit 224, an electronic mask pattern for making it possible to visually recognize at least part of the ultrasonic probe 170 imaged in an observation image. An electronic mask processing unit 226 applies electronic mask processing of the electronic mask pattern generated by the electronic mask pattern generation unit 225 to the picked-up image input to the picked-up image input unit 222, and generates an observation image in which at least part of the ultrasonic probe 170 can be visually recognized.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
