[Problem] To provide a hydrogenation catalyst for a hydrocarbon oil that has an excellent desulfurization activity and is capable of regenerating a high-performance catalyst. [Solution] A hydrogenation catalyst for a hydrocarbon oil, said hydrogenation catalyst comprising an inorganic oxide carrier carrying, per 100 parts by mass of the catalyst, for example, 15-30 parts by mass, in terms of oxide, of molybdenum and/or tungsten and 3-7 parts by mass, in terms of oxide, of cobalt and/or nickel, wherein the content of carbon derived from an organic acid is 2.0 parts by mass or less on an elemental basis. The specific surface area of the catalyst is 140-350 m2/g, and the average pore size thereof measured by a mercury penetration method is 50-130 Å. The ignition residue of the catalyst is 5.0% or less, the water-release peak temperature of the catalyst within a range of up to 450°C is 415°C or lower when measured by a temperature-programed reduction technique, and the amount of carbon monoxide adsorbed by the sulfurized catalyst is 8.0 ml/g or greater. |
