The height and width of a GUI component are defined in advance using a reference height and a reference width. The height of a character inserted in the GUI component is defined in advance using the reference height. When the GUI component is displayed on a display unit, the reference height and the reference width of a reference font size are set to values corresponding to resolution of the display unit. When a panel with resolution of 1024x768 is used as the display unit, for example, the reference height is set to 25 and the reference width is set to 19. When a panel with resolution of 640x480 is used as the display unit, each of the reference height and the reference width is set to 16.
