PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilevel inverter of three levels or more that suppresses a reduction in safety due to a failure while avoiding destroying switching elements.SOLUTION: An inverter 100 includes: switching elements U, V, W, X, Y, Zconnected in series between a positive terminal Pand a negative terminal N; reverse blocking switching elements 110 connected between respective junctions of the switching elements and an intermediate terminal G; AC output terminals O, O, O; a control section 120 for generating control signals to turn on/off the plurality of switching elements; a control signal interruption circuit 140 for, on receipt of an interruption signal to interrupt output voltages of the AC output terminals, interrupting each of the control signals to the first switching elements U, V, Wand the second switching elements X, Y, Z, regardless of the state of the control signal; and a monitoring section 160 for diagnosing a failure in the control signal interruption circuit. |
