Provided is an occupant protection device capable of protecting an occupant without delay. The presence or absence of an object approaching a vehicle is determined by analyzing an image captured by an imaging device. If it is determined that the collision between the object and the vehicle is unavoidable, an airbag device is activated before the collision, thereby allowing protection of an occupant without delay. Precise images can be obtained even under low-light intensity by using selenium as a light receiving element of the imaging device. Precise images with little distortion can be obtained by capturing the images using a global shutter method. Thus, more precise image analysis is possible.
