The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine (10). The internal combustion engine (10) includes: multiple cylinders (11); a first turbocharger (14a) including a high-pressure turbine (13a) and a high-pressure compressor (16a); a second turbocharger (14b) including a low-pressure turbine (13b) and a low-pressure compressor (16b); and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR)-catalyst converter (17) which is arranged between the high-pressure turbine (13a) and the low-pressure turbine (13b) and guides exhaust gas discharged from the high-pressure turbine (13a) to an upstream of the low-pressure turbine (13b). A power inputting means (21) is allocated to the low-pressure compressor (16b). When the low-pressure turbine (13b) cannot provide sufficient energy required to supply a predetermined amount of supercharged air amount to the cylinders (11) of the internal combustion engine (10) due to a relatively great temperature drop of the exhaust gas in the SCR-catalyst converter (17), the low-pressure compressor (16b) can be driven by the power inputting means (21).
