Disclosed is a method, an occlusion setup fixture and system for recording digital 3D representations of physical teeth models of a patient's jaws and for arranging the digital 3D representations according in a common coordinate system such that the digital 3D representations are arranged according to the patient's occlusion. The recorded digital 3D representations are virtually brought into occlusion by a virtual movement, where the virtual movement includes a translation along a path according to the confined relative movement of the occlusion setup fixture. |

1. A method for recording digital 3D representations of physical teeth models of a patient's jaws and for arranging the digital 3D representations in a common coordinate system such that the digital 3D representations are arranged according to the patient's occlusion, said method comprising:
obtaining an occlusion setup fixture comprising a first and a second model interface each configured for supporting a teeth model and a guiding structure configured for providing a confined relative movement of the first and second model interfaces in the fixture; obtaining a first teeth model and attaching it to said first model interface such that a first assembly comprising the first teeth model and at least part of the first model interface is formed; obtaining a second teeth model and arranging it in occlusion with the first teeth model; attaching the second model interface to the second teeth model while the first and second teeth models are kept in occlusion such that a second assembly comprising the second teeth model and at least part of the second model interface is formed, where the second model interface and the second teeth model are brought into contact by the confined relative movement of the model interfaces; placing the first and second assemblies in a 3D scanner and recording a first and a second digital 3D representation of the first and second teeth models, respectively, where the relative arrangement of the model interface parts of the assemblies within the coordinate system of the 3D scanner is detected or predetermined; and virtually bringing the recorded digital 3D representations into occlusion by a virtual movement, where the virtual movement comprises a virtual translation along a path according to the confined relative movement. |
