A grinder for condiments such as pepper or salt has a grinding rotor (9, fig.1) mounted to rotate relative to a grinding stator (10, fig.1) for grinding the condiment therebetween. A speed-reducing epicyclic gear train 31 is connected for transmitting torque between a motor 3 and the rotor (9, fig.1). The gear train 31 includes a plurality of spur gear epicyclic gearsets (11-14, fig.3), each gearset (11-14, fig.3) comprising planet gears P1, P2, P3, P4 meshed with a sun gear S1, S2, S3, S4. The planet gears P1, P2, P3, P4 of each gearset are supported upon a planet carrier C1, C2, C3, C4. The gearsets (11-14, fig.3) are stacked within a common ring gear R with the sun gears S1, S2, S3, S4 coaxial. Adjacent sun gears S1, S2, S3, S4 and planet carriers C1, C2, C3, C4 of adjacent gearsets being rotationally fast for transmitting torque between the adjacent gearsets (11-14, fig.3). The adjacent sun gears S1, S2, S3, S4 and planet carriers C1, C2, C3, C4 of adjacent gearsets may be integrally formed a melt processable polymer. |
