PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator attaining accurate humidity adjustment to maintain high humidity in a vegetable chamber to thereby maintain freshness of stored food for a long time by controlling opening/closing of a damper according to refrigerating and freezing operation modes, and adding humidity conditions corresponding to the respective operation modes, to control opening/closing of the damper. SOLUTION: The refrigerator comprises a cooling control means for allowing a refrigerant to flow alternately to freezing and refrigerating evaporators 9, 19 to cool while switching the freezing operation mode and the refrigerating operation mode; the damper 15 provided in the duct from the refrigerating evaporator to shut out the flow of cold air to the vegetable chamber 4; and a humidity detecting means 34 for detecting humidity in the vegetable chamber. During the freezing operation mode, the damper is opened when humidity in the vegetable chamber is lower than a predetermined value, and the damper is closed when the humidity is high. During the refrigerating operation mode, the damper is opened when humidity in the vegetable chamber is higher than the predetermined value and closed when the humidity is low.
