METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING THE TRANSIENT CHARACTERISTICS OF CHROMINANCE SIGNAL

A method and an apparatus for processing a video signal in order to improve transient characteristics of chrominance signals are provided to improve edge characteristics of chrominance signals by using luminance signals and remove undershoot and overshoot of edge-improved chrominance signals, thereby protecting the clash of the luminance signals and the edge-improved chrominance signals and distortion of an original video. A method for processing a video signal in order to improve transient characteristics of chrominance signals comprises the following steps of: generating an edge chrominance signal(S304); generating an edge-improved chrominance signal by adding the chrominance signal and the generated edge chrominance signal(S306); detecting a minimization value of the chrominance signal in a predetermined section in which a second differential value of the chrominance signal is a positive number and outputting a size value of a transient-improved chrominance signal(S310); and detecting a maximum value of the chrominance signal in a predetermined section in which the second differential value of the chrominance signal is a negative number and outputting a size value of a transient-improved chrominance signal(S320).
