PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine for a motorcycle, securing a sufficient bank angle in travelling a curve and reducing power loss in high rotation, by providing a proper power-generation amount according to the rotational speed of a crankshaft while suppressing a protrusion in a motorcycle body-width direction. SOLUTION: The crankshaft 6 is arranged below the cylinder block 2 of a multiple cylinder attached to a motorcycle body in a nearly perpendicular direction so as to be directed to the body width direction. A transmission unit 19 is arranged in a position below the cylinder block 2 and on the rear side of the crankshaft 6. In such an engine for the motorcycle, a generator 21 is arranged in a position on the rear side of the cylinder block 2 and on the upper side of the transmission unit 19, and the crankshaft 6 and the rotary shaft 22 of the generator 21 are linked with each other through a belt type continuously variable transmission 23.
