A non-polar two-wire type communication apparatus for a multi-air conditioner is provided to construct a non-polar communication environment in a software method without adding a hardware. A non-polar two-wire type communication apparatus for a multi-air conditioner includes a master microcomputer(101) and a slave microcomputer(111A). The master microcomputer transmits instruction data for recognition of inversion of data. The slave microcomputer determines whether the received data is inverted and recognized according to the reception of the transmitted instruction data. The master microcomputer inverts or non-inverts and transmits the instruction data so that only an indoor unit connected to an outdoor unit can receive the instruction data. The master microcomputer is an outdoor unit microcomputer controlling the overall operation of the outdoor unit and the slave microcomputer is an indoor unit microcomputer controlling the overall operation of the indoor unit.
