Provided are a transmission device and a transmission method that transmit emergency information as control information relating to a broadcast service. The broadcaster transmits emergency information as a control information table called EAT, during an emergency announcement period. Included in the EAT, as broadcast service control information corresponding to an emergency, are: broadcast service identification information; information instructing full-screen broadcast display; automatic channel selection instruction information for the emergency broadcast service; automatic channel selection instruction information for the emergency broadcast service in the event that a start-up instruction is given during power off; area filtering information indicating a target area; and information controlling display of emergency captions.
