PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil improvement method for the weak ground which is capable of effectively restricting residual settlement with very high soil improvement efficiency after improvement work and to provide an earth filled structure by using the method. SOLUTION: In the improvement method for the weak ground in which the weak ground A is improved to the hard ground, the upper surface of the ground A to be improved is covered with an airtight sheet 16; vacuum pressure is applied to the ground A to be improved, an area with reduced pressure isolated from the environ of the ground A is created in the ground A to be improved; an earth fill 17 is formed on the weak ground A and an earth fill load is applied; and a floating layer 18 is formed between the upper surface of the ground A to be improved and the airtight sheet 16.
