PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tread structure of a footstep for ascending and descending capable of surely preventing the toes from slipping out of a tread and surely gripping the toes, which is free from an edge of a synthetic resin formed in an intersection of two sides inside the tread for securing safe ascending and descending. SOLUTION: The tread 2 of the footstep for ascending and descending comprises a core 4 and a synthetic resin 5 covering the core, and has a U shape in a plan view. The cross section of the tread is formed in an approximately hexagonal shape. On both side faces of the tread having the hexagonal shape, an inclination angleαof the inner side face 9 with respect to a vertical line is larger than an inclination angleβof the outer side face 12 with respect to the vertical line. The intersection of inclined planes extended from the bottom face 7 and the upper face 6 of the inner side face is cut to form the vertical face 13, and a gripping part used for ascending and descending the footstep is formed .
