The present invention provides an accelerometer system includes a capacitor plate (52;54) fixed within a housing (56) and a flexure plate (55) positioned substantially parallel to the capacitor plate (52; 54)a distance therefrom. The distance varies in response to acceleration forces acting upon the flexure plate (55) such that the flexure plate (55) and the capacitor plate (52; 54) generate a capacitance signal. A magnet (60) is coupled to the flexure plate (55) and generates a magnetic field, which moves as the flexure plate (55) flexes. A coil winding (62) around the flexure plate (55) generates a second magnetic field as a function of capacitance signal, thus opposing the flexure plate magnetic field, and thereby returning the flexure plate to a null position. |
