PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for economically and efficiently producing a spiro compound. SOLUTION: The spiro compound represented by formula (4) is produced by condensing cyclization reaction of a compound represented by formula (1) with a compound represented by formula (2-1) in the presence of a base, wherein a metal hydride is used as the base. [In formula (1) and formula (4), R1to R8are each H, a halogen or the like; A is a single bond, a divalent (substituted) hydrocarbon or the like; and (a), (b) and (c) are 0 to 2.
