An occupant restraint device (10) having high degree of freedom in arrangement of a bag and a gas generator. The device has an inflatable bag (12) for pressing the front section of a seat cushion from the underside and also has the gas generator (14) for inflating the bag (12). The bag (12) is folded and received in a retainer (16). The gas generator (14) positioned in the middle in the front-rear direction inside the retainer (16). In the retainer (16), there are provided spaces at both front and rear sides of the gas generator (14). The gas generator (14) may be placed at either the front or rear inside the retainer (16).
