PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an operation rate and quality in a thread cutting device and a sewing machine.SOLUTION: A thread cutting device arranged in a sewing machine includes: a movable blade (movable knife 2) which is moved in a reciprocating manner between a first position (P1) during storage and a second position (P2) for starting the operation of cutting a needle thread 18 and a bobbin thread 19, and which takes a third position (P3) located between the first position (P1) and the second position (P2) for hooking a new needle thread 20 after cutting; and holding means 4 for holding the cut needle thread 18 and holding the new needle thread 20 after cutting. |
