A recording apparatus and a record medium for recording the data read time, seek time, continuous reproduction time, continuous record length, and inter-data relation. A recording apparatus for recording data on writable record medium comrpises a data encoding means, a conversion means for converting the data structure of the encoded data from the encoding means, and a recording means for recording the conversion data on the record medium. The file structure has first data units, second data units as sets of the first data units, and a data area for describing management information. The second data units are made to correspond to the continuous record length of when they are recorded on the record medium, and the time length and data length of each second data units recorded in a continuous record length is accommodated in the data area.
