Amorphous, transparent, antimicrobial film with a thickness of 30-1000 microns based mainly on a crystallizable thermoplastic, contains 2,4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxy-diphenyl ether (triclosan) or a mixture of triclosan with other antimicrobial substances. An Independent claim is also included for a method for the production of this film by extruding a mixture of crystallizable thermoplastic, antimicrobial substance and optionally other functional additives to give a flat melt film, then quenching on a cooling roll and solidifying.
