A shoot bolt mechanism comprises bolt-driving means and two bolt-arms 12 extending in opposite directions from the driving means and driven in opposite directions along their lengths. Each bolt arm comprises an inner portion comprising a transmission bar 14 which is operatively coupled to the driving member, and an outer portion comprising a bolt forming member 16. A connection means is arranged to adjustably connect the inner portion to the outer portion to form a bolt arm 12 of required length. The assembly has an installation position in which the connection means permits the length of the bolt arm 12 to be adjusted and an installed position in which the connection means locks the bolt forming means 16 and the transmission bar 14 together. The assembly is arranged such that operation of the driving mechanism whilst the connection means is in the installation position forces the connection means into the installed position. The inner portion and outer portion may be connected by a locking block, which may comprise a wedge 24, and a clamping sleeve 27. These may comprise teeth.
