A wireless communication device which reliably reduces power consumption by avoiding increase in power consumption more than necessary. A wireless LAN device section (201) of the wireless communication device communicates with an access point through a wireless link. An opening and closing detection section (203) detects opening and closing of a casing of the wireless communication device (101). An input section (204), which is a user interface for allowing a user to operate the wireless communication device (101), detects pressing-down and so on of a button or the like by the user. A user state management section (205) instructs to change operation of a wireless LAN according to the detection result obtained by the opening and closing detection section (203) or the input section (204). A wires LAN control section (208) controls the wireless LAN device section (201) according to the instruction to change the operation of the wireless LAN given by the user state management section (205).
