The network has a transport medium essentially in the from of optical waveguide connections and Ethernet transport technology according to the IEEE 802.3 standard whereby the ring structure of the data network is converted to the Ethernet structure using bridge functions with a spanning tree algorithm via the OSI Reference Model layer 2.
