Parallel stainless steel plates (25) define gas inlet side gaps (21) and gas outlet side gaps (22,23). A gas/gas heat exchange unit (2.1) cools the gas in the gas inlet side gaps. A gas/cooling medium heat exchange unit (3.1) cools the gas flowing through the outlet side gaps. Both heat exchange units are spaced from the gaps. An independent claim is also included for a gas drying process.
