The device has a measurement device for measuring an alternating current (I) and an alternating voltage (U). An analysis unit supplies an integrated current signal and an integrated voltage signal, and a differentiation unit supplies a differential current signal and a differential voltage signal. An inhibition unit supplies inhibition signals (Frzi1-frzin), and a detection unit supplies decision assisting signals (N1-Nk) based on the inhibition signals and the differential current signal. A decision unit supplies a triggering signal based on the assisting signals. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting electric arc.
