The operating knob (1) has a translucent material (2) and an opaque material (3) covering the translucent material. The translucent material is free from the opaque material within an area of a backlighting display area (7). The translucent material touches upto an outside surface (6) of the knob and the knob is integrally formed within the display area, where the opaque material is an elastomer plastic. A lower part (5) of the knob is formed from a chromium-plated or physical vapor deposition coated material.
