<p>A display device which is not lowered in the speed of response even after repeated driving operations. The display device comprises electrodes facing with each other and an electrolyte layer put therebetween, said electrolyte layer containing a metal salt compound. The driving operation of the electrodes is conducted in such a manner as to cause dissolution/deposition of silver. The display device is characterized in that the electrolyte layer contains at least one compound selected from among the compounds represented by general formulae (I) to (III): General formula (I) X-(L1)q - ((CH2)p - O)m - (L2)r - Y General formula (II) X-(L1)q - (CH2 - CH(R1) - O)n - (L2)r - Y General formula (III) X-(L1)q - ((CH2)p - O)m - (CH2 - CH(R1) - O)n - (L2)r - Y [wherein L1 and L2 are each a divalent connecting group; q and r are each 0 or 1; R1 is hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, hydroxyl, alkoxycarbonyl, amino, carboxyl, or sulfo; X and Y are each a substituent and either X or Y is mercapto; and p, m and n are each an integer of 1 or above].</p> |
