An antenna configuration for a flip type mobile phone 100 is disclosed. The antenna configuration is designed to reduce, to a hearing aid compatibility (HAC) M3 rating or better, any scattered EM field effects that can cause interference to an active hearing aid. The antenna configuration comprises a halfwave type antenna 140 extendable from the lower portion of the mobile phone 100. The antenna 140 does not share the same vertical axis as the lower portion of the mobile phone 100 when extended. Rather, it forms a tilt angle (a) that extends the antenna 140 away from the upper portion of the mobile phone creating a greater separation distance between the speaker 110 and the antenna 140. An antenna feed contact 150 couples the antenna 140 to components within the mobile phone 100. An antenna matching network 400 can tune and attenuate the antenna configuration to enhance operation in the GSM frequency bands.
