A locking mechanism for a hyperbaric chamber having two sections adapted to be retained in a closed position by a locking bar in a locking position is provided. The locking mechanism comprises an actuating component adapted to be moved by an external means, and a locking component adapted to bring the locking bar into its locking position. A movement of the actuating component in a first direction causes the locking component to move the locking bar in a perpendicular direction toward its locking position.
