IDENTIFICATION OF SURFACE-ASSOCIATED ANTIGENS FOR TUMOR DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide proteins as tumor associated gene products and nucleic acids encoding the same, as well as methods for diagnosing diseases characterized by expression or abnormal expression of a tumor associated antigen.SOLUTION: Tumor associated genetic products and nucleic acids encoding them are identified. The amounts of the tumor associated gene-specific transcripts in normal tissues and carcinoma tissues are confirmed by a specific quantitative RT-PCR, where substantial amounts of the transcript are very specifically found in almost all melanoma samples studied but not in the normal tissues analyzed. The identified tumor associated genetic product and the nucleic acid encoding it are used for diagnosing diseases characterized by expression or abnormal expression of the tumor associated antigen.SELECTED DRAWING: None
