The present invention is directed to a distance measuring device and a method for determination of a distance using an optical signal, with which an analog evaluation signal ( 36 ), with phase information, is digitized in an analog-to-digital converter ( 44 ), and the phase information is then evaluated in an arithmetic unit. It is proposed that the evaluation signal ( 36 ) reaches the analog-to-digital converter ( 44 ) in phase-modulated form.
