A variable resistor in which the contact portion of a contactor piece does not bounce to vary the resistance inadvertently, and the real contact area at the contact portion becomes very large. One or more contact pieces (7) each having a face extending in the direction intersecting the direction from the tip (7a) of a contactor (9) toward the held portion (7b) as a tip end face (7f), and a corner portion (7k) formed as a contact portion (7s) between the tip end face (7f) and a side face (7g) continuous to the tip end face (7f) and opposing a resistor (5) are provided. Furthermore, a holder having a structure for holding the held portion (7b) of the contactor (9) such that the side face (7g) opposing the resistor (5) of one or more contact pieces (7) does not touch the surface of the resistor (5) but only the corner portion (7k) touch the surface of the resistor (5), and the side face of the contactor (9) opposing the resistor (5) inclines to the surface of the resistor (5) is provided.
