There are disclosed methods for preventing reperfusion injury, as well as apparatus and materials for the carrying out of the methods, and uses of the apparatus. In some embodiments the apparatus may take the form of a member which may be a guidewire, which may comprise delivery holes and markers and may be comprised in a catheter assembly. The methods and apparatus may be used to prevent or mitigate the reperfusion injury associated with the clearing of vascular occlusions.
