摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying an attribute of each pixel included in an image in a simple operation with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A printer 10 performs area categorization to categorize an input image read by a scanner 91 into an edge component area and a dot component area, and performs correction with a spatial filter suitable for each area. The area categorization calculates a difference value between luminance values regarding differential patterns (t) as a combination pattern of two pixels selected among peripheral pixels around each pixel of interest, compares the calculated difference value with threshold values provided for each differential pattern (t) to compute difference detection values ht(x) corresponding to (t) differential patterns, gives weights thereto to compute a comprehensive differential detection value H(x), and identifies whether the pixel of interest is in the edge component area or in the dot component area, based on the value X(t).
