The invention relates to a chain link (1) for a link chain (K) that is flexible in itself. In the case of said link chain, chain links (1) connected to each other are movable in relation to each other and can be locked to each other such that the link chain (K) flexible in itself can be stiffened by locking the chain links (1) to each other. The chain link (1) has at least a first connection segment (101) for the connection to a first chain link and a further second connection segment (111) for the connection to a second chain link. According to the invention, the chain link (1) has a carrier (10) having the first connection segment (101) and has an adjustment part (11), which is supported in such a way that the adjustment part can be moved, preferably slid, in relation to the carrier (10), and which has the second connection segment (111).
