The invention provides methods of increasing the bioavailability of the compound 6-(3-chloro 2-fluorobenzyl)-1-[(2S)-1-hydroxy-3-methylbutan-2-yl]-7-methoxy-4-oxo-1,4 5 dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt in a patient, comprising: administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of the compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, the patient having taken food during the period between from 1 hour prior to the administration of compound to 2 hours after the administration of compound; or administering to a patient a therapeutically effective amount of the compound 10 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof during the period between from 1 hour prior to the consumption of food to 2 hours after the consumption of food.
