A monitoring system for monitoring a person (100) to be monitored within a monitored area (102). At least one image-forming measuring device (104, 106) is directed to the monitored area 102 and generates image data of the monitored area (102). A processing device (108) measures, on the basis of said image data, at least one of the following features of the monitored person (100) in the monitored area (102): the movement and position of one or more body parts. The processing device (108) stores measuring data on the monitored person 100. The processing device (108) compares sets of measuring data stored at different times with each other and generates change data on the basis of differences in features present in the comparison. A user interface (1 10) displays at least said change data.
