Disclosed are a wind power generator and a method for operating the wind power generator. The wind power generator according to the embodiment of the present invention generates electricity by transmitting the rotational energy of a hub supported by a tower to rotate, to the power generator via a main shaft. The wind power generator comprises: a first frame installed on the top of the tower; a second frame supported by the first frame and supporting the main shaft; an angle adjustment part inserted between the first frame and the second frame to adjust the tilt angle of the main shaft; a wind gauge to measure the speed of the wind blowing to the wind power generator; and a control part to determine the speed of the wind blowing to the wind power generator based on the information about the speed of the wind measured by the wind gauge, and controlling the angle adjustment part so that the front end of the main shaft can face downward if the determined speed of the wind exceeds a reference value. |
