The present invention relates to a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery and the lithium secondary battery using the same. The negative electrode active material for the lithium secondary battery according to the present invention includes silicon mono-oxide with a metal catalyst deposited on a surface thereof and a silicon nanowire which is formed on the metal catalyst.
