PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film, a transfer body for an optical film, and an image display unit, capable of improving an external appearance of a display screen when observed from an oblique direction with regard to a normal line of the display screen.SOLUTION: An optical film 3 laminates: an optical functional layer bearing a function as a linear polarizing plate 5; and an optical functional layer bearing a function as a quarter-wave retardation plate 6. The optical functional layer of the quarter-wave retardation plate 6 has a multilayer structure including at least: a retardation layer for a half-wave plate 9 for imparting a half-wavelength phase difference to a transmitted beam; and a retardation layer for a quarter-wave plate 8 for imparting a quarter-wavelength phase difference to a transmitted beam. The retardation layer for a half-wave plate 9 and the retardation layer for a quarter-wave plate 8 satisfy relations -15°<&thetas;1<15° and R2(450)/R2(550)
