An aluminum alloy wire (10) having a chemical component composition comprising a total of 0.01%-0.5% of at least one type of element selected from the group consisting of, in % by mass, 0.3%-0.9% Mg, 0.1%-0.7% Si, 0.1%-0.4% Fe, Cu, Cr, Ni, and Zr, with the remainder comprising Al and unavoidable impurities. The surface roughness Ra as measured by a non-contact surface roughness measurement instrument is 0.15-2 µm. The aluminum alloy twisted wire (1) comprises a plurality of aluminum alloy wires (10) twisted together. An electric wire (2) for automobiles has the aluminum alloy twisted wire (1). A wire harness (3) has the electric wire (2) for automobiles and has a terminal (30) crimped to the aluminum alloy twisted wire (1) of the electric wire (2) for automobiles.
