A single-phase induction motor for a washing machine, and a washing machine. The single-phase induction motor for a washing machine comprises a stator (1) and a rotor (2) that is in running fit with the stator; the rotor has a mouse cage structure; and the stator comprises a stator core (11) and a stator winding (12) arranged on the stator core. The single-phase induction motor for a washing machine has two poles, and has a synchronous speed of 3000rpm and a rated speed of 2200-2800rpm. Compared with a quadrupolar single-phase induction motor for a washing machine, the single-phase induction motor for a washing machine doubles a rotating speed, such that the output torque of the motor is reduced by half under the condition of same output power; and therefore, the volume of the motor is reduced, the space occupied by the motor installed in the washing machine is further reduced, and the internal space of the washing machine is enlarged.
