This image processing device is provided with: an image processing unit for processing image data acquired by an endoscope; a connection detection unit for detecting whether or not the image processing device is connected to a light guide of the endoscope; an internal light source unit for supplying illumination light to the light guide of the endoscope; a dimming control unit for generating dimming control data for controlling the amount of illumination light supplied to the light guide of the endoscope; and a switch unit for switching, on the basis of the detection result of the connection detection unit, the output destination of the dimming control data to the internal light source unit or an external light source device which is provided to the image processing device and supplies illumination light to the light guide of the endoscope.
