PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a positioning device that has a stepping motor and a moving mechanism composed of a feed screw and a rack, the problem being in that if the counter teeth of a rack and the thread of the feed screw stick and jam due to impact or the like from the outside, the positioning device becomes inoperable. SOLUTION: When the process of detecting the reference position of the positioning device is performed, it is determined whether sticking has been arisen or not. If sticking has been arisen, the stepping motor is controlled such that the drive torque of the stepping motor is increased and also its driving direction is reversed, thereby forcibly moving the rack, and removing jamming of the counter teeth of the rack and the thread of the feed screw.
