PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide alternative methods for administering modulators of the TGF-&bgr; superfamily to patients.SOLUTION: In certain aspects, the present invention provides a method for dosing an activin-ActRIIa antagonist to patients and a method for managing a patient that has been treated with, or is a candidate to be treated with, an activin-ActRIIa antagonist. In certain aspects, the method includes measuring in the patients one or more hematologic parameters. The hematologic parameters are one or more of red blood cell levels, blood pressure, or iron stores. The method further comprises administering to the patient the activin-ActRIIa antagonist in an amount that is appropriate to the observed level of the hematologic parameter in the patient. |
