<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selenium removal from waste water which enables the efficient separation/removal of harmful substances such as dissolved selenium and oxidizing substances from the waste water, a stable long-time keeping of a selenium removal ratio, and further a minimization of the amount of an iron-based metal to be used and the amount of generated sludge, thereby remarkably reducing a load in the operation of the waste water treatment. <P>SOLUTION: The method for the selenium removing treatment from the waste water reduces and removes the harmful substances in the waste water by bringing a catalytic reduction material into contact with the waste water containing the harmful substances comprising the dissolved selenium or the dissolved selenium and the oxidizing substances, in which the catalytic reduction material is a metal fiber molding obtained by molding the iron-based metal fibers with a volume of 0.002 to 0.2 m<SP>3</SP>and a bulk density of 50 to 100 kg/m<SP>3</SP>. The catalytic reduction material is left in contact with the waste water until a residual percentage Y defined by the formula of Y(%)=(B/A)×100 reaches as low as 30%, wherein A is the initial weight of the reduction treatment material and B is the weight of the reduction treatment material after the prescribed lapse of time in use. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
